

Ernest was born Saturday, December 11, 1927 in Hubbard, Minnesota and was the last survivor of 11 children.
Ernest served in the U.S. Air Force as a Corporal at the VA Hospital during World War II. After his service, he returned to Minnesota where he was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse where he taught all grades levels. He also had a passion for dogs. He and his wife, Josephine, loved to watch dog shows and would compete in the Westminister Kennel Club Dog Show with their prized Poodles.
He was also trained as a cosmetologist. He owned his own shop called the Clip ‘N Curl in Downey, CA, which was across the street from singer, Karen Carpenter’s apartment who was a regular at the shop. Ernest personally cut her hair.
Ernest was a wonderful father and husband. In his free time, he enjoyed dancing, especially ballroom dancing, and loved to dance with his wife and children and watch competitions like “Dancing With The Stars” to see the latest trends in dancing.
Surviving are daughter, Jolynn Iorio, sons Kevin Roepke, Ernest “Dale” Roepke, grandchildren, Ashley Griffin, Daniel McElderry, Jonelle Iorio, great grandchildren, Raquel, Cage, Bastian, Mackenzie and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Roepke, who passed away on Oct. 24, 1998.
Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
