

Genie died peacefully on November 27, 2018. She was born on October 6, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Calvin and Ethlyenne Bowen Pardue. She received her degree in education from Louisiana Tech University, and her MA in Curriculum Design from Azusa Pacific. Genie took her first elementary teaching job in Sulpher, Louisiana. There she met fellow teacher, George H. Day, and they married and settled in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Daughter, Kelley, was born the following year. The family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1964, then to Orange, California in 1965. Genie taught in Anaheim for one year and moved to Orange Unified School District, where she taught until 1999, teaching at La Veta, Imperial, and Anaheim Hills Elementary schools. Genie loved teaching, gardening, collecting, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and sister Rebecca. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kelley and Jim Rath, grandson Jameson Rath, granddaughter Natalee Keenan and great-granddaughter Harper, and her siblings Thad Pardue and Ellen Prell. Private services were held on Friday, January 4th. Genie is buried beside her husband, George, at the Cremation Garden at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. We will always remember her bright smile.
