A truly great individual, Roy wore many hats in his life and all of them looked handsome on him. Whether as a father, husband, granddad, uncle, brother, friend or coach, there was little doubt that he was incredibly devoted and passionate in his life. A wonderful gentleman -he was the guide and inspiration to his family and friends.
Roy was born in Worthing, England, June 27, 1931 to Jim and Daisy Madgwick. He graduated from Worthing High School for Boys where he was Honorable Secretary of the Oberonne Players, the School Dramatic Society, and he travelled with the London University Drama Society in college. Roy graduated from Kings College in London, England and after graduating he attended the Colonial Service College in Reading for one year. He worked in Malaysia for ten years as a surveyor and in 1964 received the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian Award, for devotional service. He later earned a Masters degree in Urban Development at MIT. Roy went on to live in Rome, Libya, New York before settling in Virginia where he worked for HNTB for 25 years, coached his son, David, in soccer and enjoyed the game of golf. In 2004 he moved to California for health reasons. He died on November 7, 2012 from pancreatic cancer.
He leaves behind his son David, grandchildren Noah, Becca, Chloe and Tessa; wife Nicole, whom he gave a lifetime of happiness in just 4 ½ years; his sisters Jill Evans and Joy Bennett in England and Francine Ash from Cyprus and many dearly loved nephews and nieces. Roy loved to cook and put together extraordinary meals for family and friends. And he never started his dinners without a glass of red wine. He greeted every visitor to his home with a big beautiful smile, a hug - a natural reflection of his warm and generous kindness.
He will be fondly and lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
