Dwaine was born on August 3, 1935 in Wellington, Kansas. He was raised in the small town of Belle Plaine. Dwaine and Sadie met in the neighboring town of Winfield. They were married in 1953 and spent the next nine years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where their two daughters were born.
Dwaine began a life long career in law enforcement beginning with the Milwaukee Police Department and then with United States Customs as a Customs Agent in both Chicago and Texas. The remainder of his career was spent in southern California where he worked with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and as a motorcycle officer with the California Highway Patrol. He retired from the California Department of Justice as a Field Supervisor with the Drug Enforcement Agency.
After retirement, Dwaine maintained a very active lifestyle. At the age of 42, he began his running career. He competed in long distance races including the Western States Endurance Run, the goal being to complete 100 miles on foot over rugged terrain in 24 hours or less. Dwaine accomplished this task twice, first at age 44 and the second time at age 60 winning first place in his age group.
Dwaine and Sadie enjoyed time together by taking trips on their motorcycle. In 1976, in celebration of the bicentennial, they traveled the perimeter of 48 states.
Dwaine was also an avid bicylist and enjoyed the camaraderie of taking many trips with a group known as The Sacramento Wheelmen.
Dwaine lived a full, eventful life. He was a man of integrity and perserverance, always giving his all. He had a deep love for his family who will miss him greatly.
