Still Waters Ran Deep
To be honest, when I was a child, Uncle Glenn always scared me a bit. He seemed so stern, so aloof. I knew him mostly from brief family visits during the holidays. But my perspective of him in later years is different. Did he change, or did I? I think of him now as quiet, shy, a "still waters run deep" sort of man. I understand now that there was much more to him than I ever had the privilege of knowing. .....

A few years back, we had a Kritsky family reunion in Butte, North Dakota. I drove out from Minneapolis, my mother flew out from California and Jane and Glenn came from Vegas. When it was over, we parted ways in the parking lot outside the motel. I remember so clearly saying goodbye to Jane and Glenn that day. With the years catching up to all of us, I did not know if I would see them again. I reached through the car window, took Glenn's hand and told them both I loved them. Glenn squeezed my hand, and I knew that he felt the same. He was a man of few words, but he'd said all he needed to right then. I'll miss you, Uncle Glenn.

"Glenn's Driving"
When you share the same name as your uncle, it's bound to lead to some confusion from time to time. We were all together when we were kids in one of the great Thomas/Lemasters family outings, I think to Marineland or the zoo or someplace, preparing to head out from the Lemasters' home when the question was put I think from my mom who asked: "Who's driving?" The answer came back "Glenn's driving." Naturally in my mind they were talking about me and I was not too comfortable with the idea of a six year old kid taking control of a massive camper with the lives of two families in my little hands, rushing over the California freeways. I was convinced they had all taken leave of their senses and I voiced my concerns to mom. "I don't know how to drive," I confessed. Oh, they weren't talking about me. Never mind.

Thanks, Uncle for stepping in for me when I came up a little short on experience and stature.

PARK IT!
I can remembering going over for a visit and I would be a little to noisy or hyper and I would get a stern "PARK IT!" I sure wish I could be there with you, I'm gonna miss you Grampa LOVE YOU!

Dearest Family of Glenn Lemaster, ( husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather & friend )

 


 I've only known some of Glenn's family for just under 5 years. I met him in person on a trip to Las Vegas with my girlfriend Cindy about 3 years ago. I was a little intimidated to "meet the parents" :) I was surprised to learn what a pleasant gracious host dad was. He was a quite person @ 1st impression. That all changed once you got him talking. He did impress me as a devoted father honest, hard working, man that built a good home for family. I was grateful to have gotten to meet him @ his wonderful home in Las Vegas. 

I join with so many others who knew Glenn in offering my deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a very long and productive life.
 The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his life indeed was well-lived.

 

May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.

Mom I hope you’re holding up okay. Death is especially painful when you lose someone so close. There is no way you can prepare for that. I know you have the support of your family

Dogs do not belong in the house...or so Dad said
Dad had his rules and if you didn't abide with them, there was a consequence. Case in point - Dad said that our 1st dog, Prince, was not allowed in the house. But being the dog lover that I am, I felt that it was not fair that Prince couldn't come in. Soooooo...I had Prince sit outside the sliding glass door and had only his paws crossed over the threshold. To my dismay in walked Dad - he looked at Prince and then me and said, "I want you to write 500 times - 'I will not bring the dog in the house'." Okay, I broke the rules and paid the price. But when Dad got his own hunting dog, Ginger (a German Shorthaired Pointer) the rules changed. It was now common to see Dad and Ginger relaxing frequently in the house - Dad in his chair and Ginger at his feet. He loved that dog!

Dad's way of saying "Good Morning".....
Oh Boy do I remember the way Dad would wake us up in the morning! He would open the door and in a loud voice say, "Hit the deck!"...and on a grumpy day I would fall out of bed and hit the floor with my fist (lol). Or the infamous, "Rise and shine!"...which even though I had to rise, I would refuse to shine! Hahahaha.... When Dad would say something, you didn't question - Dad had a "look" that you knew meant - get to it NOW!

Shade Tree Mechanic
Dad taught me everything I know, or knew, about car repair.
I remember sitting under the hood of the old white Chevy truck helping dad replace the cracked head from the old Chevy truck (that broke when I was driving it down the Cajon Pass). And working with Dad and Bill, my father-in-law to replace the timing belt on the green truck at Camper's Campmeeting in Fraiser Park. While I don't enjoy working on cars, I have my dad to thank for the ability to try when necessary. Thanks Dad!

Rise and Shine
Some of my earliest memories of Dad are the working Sundays.
We kids would be woken up with dad saying "Rise and shine".
Although I didn't appreciate waking up early, and the work was hard (yard work, breaking up a concrete slab, picking cherries, picking strawberries, etc.) I realize as I got older that this was good for me, and that hard work was rewarding. I'll always have my dad to thank for teaching me the value of hard work.

I've known Glenn's family all my life; honest, hard working, intellectual folks that we visited back and forth. I was blessed to have gotten to know him better in later life, he was an honorable man and I thought the world of him. As a couple, you felt the love and strength of Glenn and Jane they were a joy to be with.

Wedding Cake
A beautiful wedding cake that not only was beautiful to view, but it also was absolutely delicious. I remember that cake that Glenn made for Rick and me. Chocolate cake with a cherry filling ~ decorated with beautiful white frosting and blue flowers. About three years ago I wrote Glenn asking for the recipe or if he remembered what he used in the center. He remember ~ vaguely ~ but it was enough for me to "toy around" with the filling to try and replicate what he made. No..it wasn't exactly the same, but close. There was definitely love poured and frosted into the cake, and we (Rick and I both) greatly appreciated it.

Kern River
I too remember those trips to the Kern River. I especially remember the time we went fishing and as soon as the line was in a fish grabbed the bait/hook. It was amazing how many fish we caught in the short period of time. There were so many times ~ at least it seems that way ~ that we camped at the Kern River ~ floating down the river ~ swinging from the tree attached to the rope ~ or sleeping under the stars. Wonderful memories of times with the entire Lemasters' family.

Remembering Dad at Kern River
As I was flipping through my photo albums looking for pictures of Dad, I came across so many different memories of him. One of my favorite vacation places was the Kern River. One summer we had a huge rock/boulder in our camp site that we would climb to the top and slide down it. The end result of this activity was multiple holes in our pants - which Dad recorded on film!

Dad the Builder
As an Electrical Engineer (or Rocket Scientist) Dad was always good at designing and building things. When Adam was in need of a bed that would allow him safety from falling out, Dad and I got our heads together to design just that. I told him my needs and what I wanted it to look like and Dad took off from there. He designed and made rails that locked into the bed posts. Adam and I are so thankful to him because now Adam can rest peacefully and so can I :)
