Major Jean Gracie Anderson was born in Toronto, Canada to Robert and Elsie May Gracie. She was the 5th of six children. Even from an early age Jean had a desire to be a missionary. At the age of 18 she entered into The Salvation Army School for Officers Training Seminary in Canada. She met her future husband Robert Alan Anderson on the first day of school as he carried her luggage up flights of stairs to her room. They were each commissioned as single officers/pastors in The Salvation Army but eventually were married and began their life and ministry together. Jean and Robert both earned a degree in Nursing and enjoyed working in this profession. Jean was a Labor and Delivery Nurse and Robert was a Psychiatric Nurse. Robert’s desire to further his education would bring them to California where they began their family of 5 children. (Laurel, Heather, Kendra , Karen, Christopher). Nothing brought her greater joy than being with her family. They were pastors in Canada, Bermuda, California, New York and Alaska. Jean and Robert retired from The Booth Memorial Home in Anchorage, Alaska in 2000. They retired to Menifee, CA to be close to their children and grandchildren. Jean is survived by all 5 children, 11 grandchildren and her two sisters Janet Sharp and Elsie Gilbert.
A Celebration of Life service for Jean Anderson will be announced at a later time and held at The Salvation Army Murrieta Corps/Church when it is safely allowed, and out of area family can travel due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. A private family committal will take place following the service at Miller-Jones Menifee.
