John served his country in the US Navy for 20 years and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. After retirement from the Navy he work as an engineer in the aerospace industry for another 15 years before retiring. John enjoyed golfing, motorcycle riding, was an avid handball player in the day and also enjoyed the theatre. He was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church.
He is survived by his children, John N. Garrett III of Murrieta, California, Mickie Ulibarri of Arroyo Grande, California, Patrick Garrett of Carson City, Nevada and Karen Garrett of La Canada, California; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren along with his siblings. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joan Garrett in 2010.
