

Mabel Sylvia Johnson, of Temecula, CA made her transition to the Greater Life with her family by her side Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Mabel was born in Otter Tail County, Minnesota to parents Alex and Lempi Samuelson. She was one of 43 that graduated in 1943 from high school in Sebeka, Minnesota. Soon after, at age 17 she met and married the love of her life, George Henry Johnson. They were married in 1945 and had a son Franklin before George was stationed near Munich, Germany. There in Munich they had their second child, Sherlyn.
Mabel and George moved their family to California in 1946. They lived in Inglewood, Canoga Park, and La Palma before settling in Temecula in 1988. Mabel and George attended the Church of Religious Science and stayed involved in the church much of their lives. Along with annual vacations to Minnesota, they happily traveled together over the years to a variety of places including Greece, Hawaii, Key West, and one exciting trip in which they drove to Mexico City. As a caring mother, Mabel was always involved in and supportive of her children's numerous activities and interests. She was very active in the Finnish American Women's Club in the San Fernando Valley. Mabel greatly enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, often sharing the fruits of her labor. Being a wonderful cook, she excelled in preparing large, much appreciated meals and making holidays most memorable for her extended family. Mabel also had a big heart for all animals and especially loved the many cats and dogs she welcomed into her life.
Mabel is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, George; brother Curtis Samuelson; daughter Sherlyn Pappas; and 4 grandchildren, Cindy, Brian, Alexander, and Daniel. She also had 2 great grandchildren, Presley and Nicholas. Mabel joins her son Franklin in returning Home. Her compassion and generosity will be remembered, and her kind and loving spirit will always be with her family and friends.
