Margaret was born in March 1927, to Frank and Margaret Hagan. The youngest of three, Marge grew up in Indianapolis alongside her two older brothers, Carl and James “Jim”. She attended St Mary’s Academy and later graduated from business school as a Comptometer Operator.
In 1952, she married Robert “Bob” McKeand and moved to New York, where they welcomed their first child, Richard. After returning to Indiana, their family grew with the arrival of twin daughters, Sharon and Karen. They later settled in Southern California, where Marge embraced an active and full life as she raised her family. She joined a bowling league with her son, volunteered as an assistant Girl Scout leader, and spent countless hours gardening and sewing. She especially loved taking the family on road trips to explore beaches and coastal towns, visiting California’s historic Catholic missions, and even trying her hand at skiing.
Marge worked in the lunch program at a local High School while her children were young, ensuring she could be home with them each afternoon. As they grew older, she returned to her career in human resources, holding positions at various companies in the Los Angeles area.
Marge retired at age 70 and moved with her husband to the Sun Lakes Retirement Community in Banning, California. There, she embraced an active and fulfilling life through golfing, singing in the Sun Lakes Chorale, volunteering at Carol’s Kitchen in Cabazon, attending and volunteering at her church, and exploring the area on her Sunday drives.
Bob passed away in 2006, and ten years later, Marge moved to The Village Senior Community in Hemet. There, she continued to embrace life by joining community outings, attending concerts and movies, reading, and exploring various artistic pursuits, including watercolor painting, wood burning, card making, and charcoal drawing. She especially treasured visits from her family and took great pride in introducing them to her friends at the Village.
Her deep Catholic faith was the foundation of her life and guided her daily. Marge’s devotion was reflected in her commitment to daily prayer, her frequent attendance at Mass, and her unwavering trust in God’s love, grace, and plan for her. She was especially committed to charitable giving and took great joy in supporting her parish community.
Marge will be remembered for her soft heart, quiet strength, and deep love for her family. Her kindness, gentleness, generosity, and unconditional acceptance were a blessing to all who knew her. Her eternal optimism, strong faith, perseverance, and resourcefulness kept her fiercely independent throughout her life.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, and her beloved son Richard. She is survived and remembered by her daughters Karen (Todd) and Sharon; grandchildren Kelli, Timothy (Haley), John, Joseph (Amber), Dillon (Stephanie), four great grandchildren, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on February 28, 2026, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California. A small gathering and luncheon will follow the service from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Hotel MdR Marina Del Rey on their Haven Patio to celebrate our mom's life.
