Nancy Haynes Hunt, of Hemet, California, was born February 16, 1928, and passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 95. Nancy was born in Huntington Park, California, and was the daughter of the late James Haynes and Hazel (Clark) Haynes.
Nancy had a bold spirit and an abundance of artistic talent. She dropped out of the music program at Redlands College after her first year to pursue a career as a professional singer. One of her fondest memories is her time with the USO on the front lines during the Korean War, entertaining our troops. She had many stories to tell and made lifelong friends with the other girls in the show.
Nancy was married briefly to George Hunt, and she had a daughter, Karen (Hunt) Rogers.
Nancy returned to school at age 40 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music. Soon after, she gained her teaching certificate and began a 28-year career in education. During this time, she also earned her Master of Arts in Drama and Music.
Nancy spent five years teaching high school on Catalina Island, where she initiated and produced an annual community production of a Gilbert & Sullivan light opera each year as a school fundraiser. She considered this one of the highlights of her teaching career.
Nancy’s determined independence as a woman was ahead of its time. She loved animals and was rarely without a four-legged companion. Survived by her daughter Karen (Hunt) Rogers, Nancy will be remembered dearly and missed deeply.
