It can be said of Ruth Alma Mitchell, "the Grass didn't grow under her feet". Ruth was born to Wallace Saxton and Eileen Bower on December 30, 1913 in Boise, Idaho. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the age of 99.
Ruth lost her mother at a very young age and spent her early years raising her younger brother. She learned early on that she would need to work hard and be diligent.
She lived out that philosophy of hard work with her young family; her two daughters, Janis and Eileen. As young girls they knew their Mother would do whatever she needed to do to support them.
Ruth loved to crochet and do oil paintings. She was very talented. She would give Afghans away for Christmas and could always be counted on to make crafts to sell at church fund raisers. In particular she would make beautiful Christmas placemats that were given to residents of convalescent homes. Ruth was a great cook! Her family and friends could count on short rib beef stew and pot roast Sundays!
She was a proud member of the Eastern Star Organization in El Monte, California. She loved to travel cross country with her husband of 37 years, Mike. She attended Calvary Four Square church in Hemet for 17 years. She was an independent and spiritually devoted woman. She loved to read her Bible.
Although she spoke to her daughters often about going home to see her Heavenly Father, her daughters will mourn her passing. She will also be missed by her grandsons, Curtis, Harreson and Calen along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her adopted daughter, and friend, Maria Randolph, who lovingly cared for her, will dearly miss her.
Ruth touched many lives and will be truly missed by a host of extended family members and friends and all those who were honored to know her and who loved her.
