He was born on July 2nd, 1989 to Patrick and Amy Garvey in Phoenix, Arizona. The Garvey family moved to the mountain community of Prescott, Arizona when Shane was 6 and the family made many deep connections there. Shane showed early promise in the sports and happily played while forging some of his most long lasting and enduring friendships. He was an outstanding football and baseball player and played both these sports most of his life. He especially shined in football and baseball at the high school level, but for Shane, football was where his skills became exceptional. His family and friends spent so much time together watching him play, and he was such an intelligent, exciting, and powerful athlete, beautiful to behold. He graduated from Prescott High School and went on to play football at the junior college level at Scottsdale Community College.
Shane was a bit of a dichotomy with a tough side that showed up in his persistent work ethic while training for sports, and also a soft side that so many people were blessed to experience. He is remembered by his gorgeous blue eyes, his mischievous spirit, his towering and tender love for his family, his compassion and ability to always be there for his friends, his mad skills at any sport he ever tried, his infectious laugh, his sweet side, his manly side, and his smile that could light up an entire room. He was a people person, charismatic and personable.
Shane's family and friends were his true passion. He is survived by his loving parents, Pat and Amy, his grandmother Sandy Garvey, grandmother Jeannie St. John, grandparents Joe and Jan McShane, his cousin who is a brother Sean Garvey, his uncles and aunts, cousins, and friends. Their tribute to him states: "When we miss you, when we are weeping for the unfathomable loss of you, we can think of your magnificent smile and we will inevitably find ourselves smiling, because your inner light was like a little bit of sunshine that made the world a brighter place."
The memorial service, a Celebration of Shane's Life, will be held for family, friends, and community on Saturday, October 23, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Frangipani Estate Winery, 39750 De Portola Rd, Temecula, Ca 92592.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shane Garvey's Memory to Prescott High School ~ Home of the Badgers, Athletics Department, 1050 N. Ruth Street, Prescott, AZ 86301.
