During his childhood, he grew up in Greer, SC which was a small mill town. His mother was a textile mill worker to provide for her children. At age 17, Ted joined the Navy. He served aboard the USS Windham Bay. While in San Diego, he met his sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Shirley. They raised 4 children, Brad, Barry, Eric and Shauna, in El Cajon, CA. He worked as a gas serviceman for San Diego Gas and Electric until his retirement.
Ted and Shirley enjoyed building their retirement home in Belmont, NC before returning to California in 1996, settling in Murrieta. He enjoyed home projects and was a skilled worker. It was important to Ted to be a good provider for his family and helpful neighbor. He leaves a legacy of generosity.
Ted is survived by his wife Shirley, brothers Benny Greer, Grady Greer, and children Brad Greer, Eric (Phyllis) Greer and Shauna (James) Bland; Grandchildren Ryan, Cierra, Daniel, Jonathan, Lance, Jamie, Matt and Holly; great-grandchildren Austin, Kylie, Kolten, and Josiah.
