Bobbi and Family, 
We just heard the sad news of Terry's passing. We have such fond memories of camping trips, church functions, eating, and Terry's friendship. Our prayers are with you all during this time.

My friend
I first met Terry O'Connor about thirty years ago when Brian was coming to Sacramento to work as a youth intern at Arden Church. I stopped by Hemet to meet the parents and that day I met a man that became not just the parent of my friend but a friend himself.



Over the years I did not spend a lot of time with Terry but every time I did, it was a fun or learning experience. Over the years at parties, graduations, weddings etc, I got to know a man that had a very unique sense of humor and one of the quickest wits I have ever come across. Terry never lacked for a quick word whether it was about sports. politics, religion or his family.



Speaking of his family, he and I talked several times over the years about his family. He was so much in love with Bobbi and saw in her, as he said, things that he never could have had or done. He was so proud that all of his kids graduated from Point Loma and the lives that they made for themselves. Like all families there were disappointments and discouragements but through everything, Terry was a rock. When Brian had his surgery on his knee, or when Lisa had the stroke, he made the comment, they will make it and they will be fine - one time he told me that the O'Connors had strong will, as if I didn't know that. He loved his grandchildren and was so proud of them. Although I didn't know Jaysen and Steph well, I felt like when Terry talked about them, I got to know them because he was so proud of them. Obviously I knew Megan very well, since I was her God-father, and he bragged on her a lot. He really loved Erich too and I have never seen him happier or enjoy himself more than at the wedding last May. He seemed to just enjoy telling stories and just being with his family, all together. The pictures from that night are so much a real picture of Terry O'Connor and his family - Bobbi putting her head on his shoulder, him telling stories, or making witty remarks about his family and friends. I felt like a member of the family because I got a few witty remarks about me too.



He told me time after time of his dreams for his family to have a strong faith in the God that he loved more than any thing in the world.. He said to me at Megan and Erich's wedding that his greatest hope was that every one of his kids and his grandkids would really follow God because as Terry said, "There are times when we wouldn't have made it without His help." Although he was disappointed at times with church and pastors, as was I, and we had talked about that, he was never disappointed with God. He said, "I just hope that my family all understand what is really important. We pray for them every day. That is what makes parents happy." As we talked, he asked me about when my Mom passed away and it was kind of special as he told me that he was sure that my Mom was happy since I was following God.

That conversation and the others that I had with Terry O'Connor are ones that I will cherish and remember.



Following are just a few things that I would like to say to each of you from my times with Terry and as you grieve now over his passing. I could write a lot more and I know I am leaving out things but just some thoughts.



To Bobbi- you had a great husband, a man who loved you more than anything. He adored you, not just loved you. He was very proud to be your husband and he told me that I would do it all over again to be with Bobbi.



Jeanine: As the oldest, he told me a few stories about the days of living on the ranch and you being the older sister to Brian. He was very proud of you being a teacher and how well you had done. He loved Mark and your kids and so looked forward to you all coming to things so you could be together. He said to me at Brian's 50th that it was pretty good for a family to have a big sister come back for her brother's birthday.



Brian: What can I say? You were his son. You had so much in common - sports, and wittiness and yes, smart-aleck. He loved you and was so proud of you so many times in school, sports, career. etc but when you got the doctorate, he told me that he never thought one of his kids would be called "Dr." There are so many things that I could say about you and your Dad, but in your case I am sure that we will talk much more about these things. You were and are and will always be Terry O'Connor's son in every way. That is something to be proud of.



Lisa: He adored you. He told me several times that you were his little girl, not because you were the youngest but because you were the smallest. He hurt so bad for you when you had the stroke; he agonized and wished so much that he could do something. He was so proud of you for the way you came back and you again had the ability to make a comment or a witty remark. He loved you and your life is better because he was your Dad.



Jennifer: I don't know you as well but your Dad told me that it was pretty hard when the baby of the family moved two or three thousand miles away. He really admired your work and career. More than once he told me that you had made something of yourself and bragged about what you were doing. He loved the fact that you came home for Christmases and came for the wedding and were still a part of the family and that is something that he told me several times.



Stephanie and Jaysen: I don't really you guys as well but I know that your Grandpa loved you and cared about you sooo much. He prayed for you and loved it when you came to see them and were here for family occasions. Steph, he said that he didn't know what New York had but he was sure that you would be fine because you sure had a lot of talent, and his comment was that you didn't get the dancing from him. Jaysen, he really enjoyed just being around you - he said at the birthday party that you definitely had O'Connor blood in you (I think that was when you were giving me a hard time).



Megan: As the oldest granddaughter, he was so proud of you. I know that he was thrilled when you did all the stuff that you did in high school and then when you got your degree finished. That was always very important to him. He really was impressed with Erich and as I said earlier, he had the best time at the wedding just being with family and telling me at least three or four times what a beautiful bride you were. He was totally amazed at how well you organized your Dad's birthday party and that was another special day for him.



To all of the O'Connor family: You are loved. You are an extended family to me. I wish I could be there with you during this time but my prayers are with you. You had a great husband, Dad and grandfather. You were very fortunate. You didn't have him long enough but every one of you was deeply loved, cared about, and he was so proud of each of you. He prayed for you every day and I am sure that in Heaven, He is telling Jesus right now to make plans for the O'Connor family reunion.

Terry O'Connor was a very smart, fun, hard working man. He loved his wife, his entire family, his friends and most of all, his God. He was not a man who was famous, or pushed himself on people, or cared about being something that he wasn't. He was kind, could get angry if he needed to, but cared deeply about things and people. Hw loved the Dodgers (and we used to go around about that since I was a Giant fan) and he knew sports. He was a friend, a man I asked more than once to pray for me, a man that I asked for advice occasionally, not a lot but he gave it when I asked, a super father, a loving husband, a man of God, a man who made this world better and now it is poorer because he is gone, but Heaven I know is much richer because he is there. He is probably hooking up phone lines for somebody there. I am glad that I knew him, that he was my friend, and to all of you who grieve his passing, be thankful for the years that you had him, because you were very fortunate. Thank you for sharing Terry O'Connor with me and many others. God bless you and I am praying for you.
