February 7, 1948 - May 5, 2015
Tom passed away quietly at home in Moreno Valley surrounded by his loving wife Amy, his family and friends. Tom was born February 7, 1948 at Stanford University Hospital to Thomas Norman (Norm) Morrison and Marion (Maidie) Greenamyre Morrison. The oldest of three sons, Tom is survived by his wife of 31 years, Amy, his brothers Scott (wife Patty), Jim (wife Linda), and many nephews and nieces.
Tom was raised in Alameda, California where he attended Alameda High School, and graduated in 1966. He played basketball and was a high jumper on the track team. He attended Laney Junior College in Oakland and then earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis with majors in history and mathematics. Tom used his knowledge of mathematics to study computer science and was employed as a systems analyst for the Starcrest Company of Perris, California. He retired in 2012 after 33 years. He valued his many fine friends and colleagues at Starcrest.
In 1984, Tom married the love of his life, Amelita Recto. Within a year of their wedding, Amy and Tom moved to Moreno Valley where they have many close friends and relatives. They loved traveling together throughout Southern California, taking cruises and visiting the Philippines, Hawaii, Europe, the Grand Canyon, and New Orleans.
Tom had a lifelong love for music. He was an accomplished musician, and expertly played the clarinet, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, ukulele, and mandolin. He had an extensive library of Early American Roots Music that was recorded on old 78 RPM vinyls in the first half of the 20th century. He established the website www.juneberry78s.com in 2002 and made available online thousands of tunes from his extensive collection. He also loved early rock and roll, Bob Dylan, and the Beatles. Tom enjoyed playing music with and for his friends and sharing his vast knowledge of his favorite music.
Amy and the family wish to thank all of those who cared for Tom over the last four years and those who sent well wishes, visited with him, prayed for him and gave him encouragement during his long battle with cancer. Throughout the entire struggle, Tom kept a positive outlook and a reassuring smile to put others at ease.
Tom will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by us all.
