To our little SUPERhero!

I found Travis and his family via Facebook after a very twisting and turning road of events. Doug's mom is my first cousin but we've never met and only recently connected. That makes Doug my second cousin and little Travis my third cousin. After learning of Doug's love for super heroes and especially Captain America, (my favorite too!) we became FB friends and it was then that I began my journey into experiencing the wonders and beauty of the Charlot family. My wife, Sarah, and I fell in love with Travis the very first time we saw his picture, I mean, really, who couldn't? So angelic, so strong, such a fighter, and so in love with his mommy and daddy and sister. His eyes showed it all. The Charlots became a very common point of conversation in our household as we were continually astonished and amazed at not only Travis' accomplishments but also the tremendous and tender love and dedication that Doug and Rebecca showed toward him along with their forteitude toward his illness. Most people couldn't do this, it would prove too much. But not them; they could and they did. I'm sure it wasn't all roses and sunshine, how could it be as you watch a child, your child, go through this 24/7? But they persevered. I believe that God chose them for him. And I'm so proud to know they are included in my bloodline. I'd be envious and jealous if they weren't!
After a while, I wanted to connect with Travis more, but how over all of the miles? I decided I would do it through Captain America! So I dipped into my decades old collection and found a lunchbox that I believed to be very rare (from my research online) and felt that there could be NO better owner and curator of it than the little man Travis himself. I packaged it up, sent it, and waited. Then this picture was posted on FB! I can tell you most assuredly that my entire collection has never given me nearly any amount of joy that just seeing it in Travis' tiny hands. And that smile on his face!! Looking straight at the camera, at me. I felt so honored to give it to him. That little face, that little cherub, so sweet and makes me smile just to see him smile!! I thought, maybe someday he can use it. Maybe someday he'll have his own collection and that can be a part of it. Maybe someday, maybe someday. It was my hope and dream that this little boy would, against all odds, make it to that some day. But it wasn't in God's plan. But, who knows, maybe now Travis is playing with Joe Simon (creator of Captain America who passed away in 2011). I know Joe would be overjoyed at meeting one of his biggest littlest fans!
Words can never express the sadness of losing you, Travis, but then again you so often left us speechless during your short time on this planet because words could NEVER express the joy and love that was felt for YOU. You will be forever remembered, forever missed and forever loved. Til I finally get to meet you someday, little buddy, run, play, talk, laugh, and FLY!

Dear Travis, we never got to meet but you certainly found your way into our hearts and have a place that will be forever with us. We loved watching your accomplishments and were astounded at your strength. Such a beautiful little boy! Dear Doug, Rebecca and Bella, I know the pain and how it can eclipse the joy and beauty of a little life especially during this time. But I believe God looked all over the earth for the right family to give Travis to and I know that He found them in you. God knew Travis' time would be short here but also knew that no one else could fill his life with all of the love and happiness you all did. We have been, are and will be with you in spirit, love and support. May the peace of God that passes all understanding abide in your hearts during these immensely difficult days. Scott, Karen, and Sam sometimes we don't understand why God takes loves ones too soon, but I he has a plan for your family. Hang in there and know that Travis is with God and smiling down on the entire family. God Blessings.
