Warren Clayton Shinn, of Sun City, CA entered eternal life on Sunday, January 29, 2012. Warren, known as "Wally" to family and friends, was born in Fargo, North Dakota to parents Ervin and Ellen Shinn. He was the youngest of 5 children that were raised on his family's Dairy Farm in Fargo. He was raised Lutheran, but as an adult he kept a distance from the church and kept his Lutheran upbringing mostly to himself. He was not public about religion or personal beliefs. Wally was a gentle spirit with few words but always ready to tell a joke and laugh.
As a young man, when the USA got involved in World War II, Wally immediately enlisted and served in the US Navy within a construction battalion. He is a WWII Veteran. After being honorably discharged from the military, Wally worked in a union and did work for most of the major motion picture studios in Los Angeles and Hollywood, California.
He was introduced to his then future wife, Olga Olive Pasini, by her brother-in-law, his co-worker and friend, Frank Blocchi. They were married on November 11, 1951. They had one daughter, Carolyn Sue Shinn, and 2 granddaughters, Amy and Laurel.
In his young married life Wally enjoyed family vacations with close friends often going camping, fishing and hunting.
Wally went to work for Douglas Aircraft. He worked in the plaster mold manufacturing facility making molds and plane parts. He and Olga later owned and operated a plaster statuary manufacturing business for about 20 years.
Although Wally was an open-minded person throughout his life, he did have strong opinions on many topics, but he mainly kept his opinions to himself. He did not believe in discussing politics or religion with others.
In retirement Wally loved going bowling (298 High). He bowled nearly every week and if he wasn't bowling in his spare time, he was watching it on TV. He also enjoyed road trips to various places throughout the USA. At home, he read the newspaper every day and enjoyed political commentary TV shows and sports. He was great at fixing things around the house. Regardless of the problem, he could always figure it out. He also enjoyed playing cards, board games, and solitaire on his computer.
Warren and Olga celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on 11/11/2011.
Wally was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Rafanello. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Olga Olive Shinn; his 2 granddaughters, Amy Sinclair and her husband Roderick, and Laurel Kemmerer; his Son-in-law John Rafanello; and a small host of nieces, nephews and other family.
