Wellington John Whittaker was born on Dec 25th 1931 in Moose Jaw Saskatuan, Canada. He was one of 12 children. He was brought up on a dairy farm. His brother said he was a little fighter right from the start. He remained one for all his life. Anyone that knew Wellington knew he took no guff. Not from anyone.
In 1950 he immigrated to the United States and joined the Marines. He worked hard and became a Sergeant. Wellington was always a hard worker. He served his country in Korea in active combat duty against the enemy. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
He married Elsie Moen on August 12 1957. He adopted Alan and John in addition to having two children with Elsie, Kathy and Jim. He was a salesman in the furniture industry. He soon became a top producer and secured a job with Sears where he finished his career.
He met his wife Patricia in 1960. She also worked at Sears. Patricia was the love of his life. She always came first to him in all things. They married in 1980 and the two of them forged a great life together, living at first in Garden Grove, building a home in 29 Palms, a farm in Grants Pass Oregon where they raised cattle and oats, lived in Reno Nevada for a while (Did I mention he liked to play Poker?) and finally settled in Fallbrook California where they enjoyed creating a beautiful garden with a pond and waterfall that attracted many rabbits and bird which Wellington loved to watch. His heart was as big as he was. He took Patricia's two children Doug and Dona under his wing. He took Doug into his home when Doug became ill with advance diabetes. He was generous, direct and honest. No one could say they did not know where they stood with Wellington John Whittaker.
Among other things, Wellington understood various business interests such as Real Estate and the stock market. He played the game well. His interest in all growing things, plants, animals and politics was well known with anyone who knew him.
You could say he enjoyed a good debate. One could always get a lively conversation going by simply mentioning the Republicans or George Bush.
His family mourns his passing today but celebrates his life at the same time. He lived his life to the fullest from birth until his passing on to the Lord on May 8th 2012.
