Yolandra "Loni" Vera Brown

She was born to Ida Belle and John Lee Brown on August 23rd, 1959. After graduating high school, Loni joined the armed forces as a member of the United States Army. There she had her first daughter, Shyla. 12 years later, she was blessed with two more daughters, Detra and Danielle. Loni was a mother to all, and loved spending time with her many sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Loni was always passionate about education; she ensured her daughters did well in school. After her daughter Shyla received her PhD, she was inspired to defy many odds and earn her associates degree and bachelor's degrees at the age of 59. She loved being “Grammie” to her four grandchildren, playing games, and making everyone smile and laugh.

Loni is survived by her three daughters: Shyla Saltzman, Danielle Thompson, Detra Allen; four siblings: Lorene Hunt-Daniel (sister), John Brown Jr. (brother), Dathan Brown (brother), Stephanie Wimberly (sister); and four grandchildren Maurice Allen III, Maisyn Allen, Ava Allen, and Emoni Michelle Thompson

A private family memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 4th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “Together We rise,” a non profit organization for foster youth.
