Yoshie Theresa Iha Messina Ignacio was born on Thursday, August 3, 1950 in the town of Ishikawa, Okinawa, Japan. She emigrated to the United States with her mother, Yoko Iha Messina, settling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the early 1960's. Yoshie spent her adolescence and young adult life in a row house in the neighborhood of South Philly. Devout in her faith, she attended Roman Catholic schools throughout her education. At age eighteen, Yoshie met and wed U.S Navy man Florencio Yuvienco Ignacio, originally of the Cavite province, Philippines. The two started a family and eventually had four children: Lisa Tremper (1970), Linda Taetsch (1971) , Randy (1973), and Gina Rye (1979). Yoshie was a devoted stay at home mom, then later a machine operator for the manufacturing company in southern California, retiring after 30 years there. Yoshie will always be remembered as a loving, compassionate, generous, interesting woman who doted on her children, seven grandchildren and one great- grandchild. The warmth she exuded was felt by family, friends and strangers. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
