Armida Cortez Fernandes

Armida Cortez Fernandes, age 101, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021. Armida was born one of seven children on January 12, 1920 in Guaymas, Sonora Mexico to her parents Albert Camacho and Felipa Cortez.

in 1958, Armida migrated to the United States and settled in California. She worked very hard for her family in various jobs; fighting for her place at the cannery dominated by the portuguese and italians, prior to working as a seamstress, and then a hotel maid. In the early 80's she owned and managed apartment complexes for many years prior to retirement.

Armida was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great grandmother who was very meticulous about her home, was a fabulous cook, worked hard, and was very protective of her family. She loved to travel, sew, read, and play her favorite slot machines. In 2018, she relocated to Henderson Nevada from California.

Armida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Manuel Fernandes; one daughter, Otilia Perez; four sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by her three daughters: Sylvia Perez, Lourdes Copitas, and Ana Patricia Holguin; 11 grandchildren; 20 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

A Rosary service for Armida will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 beginning at 12:30 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Armida will be laid to rest at Palm Henderson Cemetery, in Henderson, Nevada.
