Hamid B Mohammed, age 88, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022. The story of Hamid Mohammed began on April 20, 1934, where he was born in Trinidad and Tobago. Hamid grew up in a loving home with both his parent and eight siblings. He enjoyed his youth with his parents, siblings, and cousins in the Caribbean. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as cricket, soccer, fishing, and many other sports and with athletic skills he even joined a local Cricket team.
As Hamid got older, he started venturing out to find ways to contribute to his home. He took a special interest in Floristry, where he became mastery at his skill and made a career out of it. While Hamid loved being surrounded by his parents and siblings, he realized it was time to create his own path and start a family of his own.
By his early 20’s Hamid would meet a beautiful woman by the name of Jessie Crichlow who he would later fall deeply in love with and ask her hand in marriage. The two lived happily together as any young couple until one day they got news that the two would soon bring their first child Ian into the world. Hamid’s family continued to grow, as him and Jessie would later welcome their first and only girl, Lorraine; and later, their youngest son, Sean. Hamid’s family was now complete.
Hamid knew he only wanted the best for his family. His hardworking, charming personality and ambition led him to set plans to travel to the United States looking for opportunity to grow his success in America. Hamid wanted more than anything to enjoy and share the American dream with his loving family. Upon arriving in the US, Hamid worked in various flower shops to gain knowledge of operations to run his own business. He also grew to love western and Native American history in which he often purchased western cowboy and Native American novels weekly; and collected several western and Native American memorabilia throughout the years.
While he enjoyed this new life in the United States, he knew it was not complete without his beautiful family and never lost sight of that. He continued to work several jobs until he was able to purchase a home so that he and his family could live in upon their arrival to the United States. Hamid’s ambition did not stop there, he later opened his own Flower Shop in New York where he would work for many years until retirement age.
Hamid was able to see his children grow up, go to college, and have families of their own and was proud of his children’s many accomplishments. Hamid continued to work hard as a well-known florist in his community and even after closing his floral shop doors for the last time, he continued to work part time making floral arrangements on holidays for local businesses.
Hamid’s way of life would later come to a halt, when his wife of over 50 years became ill. Hamid’s passion and focus became caring for his wife with the help of his loving son, Sean for many years afterwards. Hamid’s life later took a tragic turn for darkness with the unexpected early passing of his youngest fun and loving son, Sean. With Hamid growing older in age and unable to fully care for his beautiful Jessie he would have to make the heavy-hearted decision to leave the life he had grown to love in New York for the next chapter in his life. He would find himself traveling across the United States to Nevada to live with his eldest son Ian and family.
Hamid began to enjoy his new life in Nevada. He loved going to movies, visiting old western ghost towns, local history museums, buffets, outdoor parks, and Grand Canyon. He enjoyed well spent visits he and Jessie got from his daughter, Lorraine. Hamid continued to care for Jessie until her final breath. Hamid continued to spend most of his days spending time with his eldest son, Ian and grandson, Liam enjoying walks in the park together, movies, game nights and good eats. Hamid continued to live a peaceful life enjoying the outdoors, gardening, spending time with his family, until the age of 88 when God willed for him to be reunited with those who had passed on before him.
Hamid was an amazing husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and grandfather; who will forever be remembered as a great man who loved his family and passion for life. We miss you and love you dad grandpa!
