

Jack Charles Collins, 87, of Searchlight, Nevada, passed away on June 12, 2015, after a long illness. Born in La Habra, California on February 13, 1928, Jack was one of Mary Melvina (Mamie) Jack and Jennings Bryan Clarence (Clancy) Collins' three children and a twin to his sister, Joan. Collins attended Wilson High School in Long Beach, California, and graduated in 1945. At age 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served four years during World War II. After his service, Jack returned to Southern California where he attended and received a Bachelor's Degree in the sciences from USC. He married Hope Florence Parsons, his high school sweetheart, and they made their first home in Seal Beach, California. They later moved to Huntington Beach, where Jack retired from the United Way. In 2000, after Hope's passing, Jack's lifelong passion for Native American culture led him to Searchlight, Nevada, where he opened up Jack's Trading Post. He enjoyed meeting and sharing his knowledge of the Southwest's arts and crafts with people from all over the world. Jack was a kind and gentle son, husband, brother, and friend. Collins is pre-deceased by his parents, Mamie and Clancy Collins; sister, Twila Jeanne Dickson; and his wife, Hope Florence Collins. He is survived by his sister, Joan Gwendolyn Evans of Fort Jones, Ca.; nephews, Rick Dickson of Yreka, Ca.; and Mark Evans of Fort Jones, Ca.; nieces, Lynn Fain of Ashland, Or.; and Judy Baughman of Pleasanton, Ca.; and friend and companion Marilyn Carson of Searchlight, Nv. Visitation will be Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m., at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway Henderson, NV 89015. Burial will follow at Searchlight Cemetery in Searchlight at 3:00 pm.
