Joseph Eugene Preston, 93, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on July 7, 2017. He was born in Salem, Illinois on December 21, 1923. As a young man he lived in Watsonville and Stockton, California. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from 12-1941 to 6-1963. After his retirment from the U.S.Navy, Joe lived in Northern California. He raised six children; Rick, Sheryl, Louise & Pat (preceded his death), Ed and Donna. Widowed in 1959, and again in 1968, Joe decided to take his youngest two children and relocate to Las Vegas in 1969. He worked in security at various strip hotels, including the Riviera and Hacienda, retiring from Caesars Palace, where he worked from 1976 to 1986. He spent his later years with his companion, Mary. They traveled to many destinations and countries, and enjoyed their retirement and time together. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were always ready to listen to his many U.S. Navy and life adventures. Joe loved his country, the service, and he was also a Mason. In his retirement he enjoyed visiting Nellis Air Force Base with his brother Charles' grandson, Michael Shawn Preston (USAF). Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary "Mayme" Preston, his two wives, siblings: Evelyn Ray, Mina Scanlan, Nadine Dennis, Charles Preston and Dean Preston. He is survived by his children: Rick, Sheryl, Louise, Ed, and Donna; one brother, Bill Preston; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There will be a small private ceremony in Fremont, California. He requested no service; however, he did leave this to be found... When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little -- but not too long, And with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me - but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone, It's all part of the Master's plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know, and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, Miss me - but let me go. Love Dad
