Larry Joseph Slocum Sr., age 83, passed away on September 8, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and moved to Henderson, Nevada when he was 10 years old. Larry attended Basic High School and was in the class of 1959. He joined the US Navy at 17 years of age. He loved the Navy and stayed active for 9 years.
Following his service, Larry worked construction for 20 years before starting his 30-year career as a warehouseman for the Bureau of Reclamation in Boulder City.
Some of Larry’s fondest memories were being part of the JC’s and serving as President. He also loved to sing and do karaoke any chance he got. He had an infectious smile and a wicked sense of humor that always ended in a hilarious quip. We called them “Larryism”.
Larry and his first wife, Betty Cortez, had four wonderful children: Larry Jr., Emily, Tracee and Vicki. He loved his children unconditionally.
In 1981, Larry married Maureen Slocum of Boulder City, and they were happily married for 43 years. They enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Mt. Wilson just outside Pioche, cheering on the Rebels, going on cruises and hanging out at the beach with family and friends in Florida.
Larry preceded in death by his parents, William and Lilian Slocum; his brothers: Bill, Jim, and Bobby; sister, Jeanine; daughter, Tracee; and granddaughter, Ana. He is survived by his wife, Maureen; his sister, Sandra; his son; Larry Jr. (Mary); daughters: Emily (Johnny), Vicki (Brad); 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed and loved by everyone who knew him.
