Marie Ismejeanne Dorvil, born in Haiti on July 28, 1937; a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born and raised in Fond Blanc, Haiti, Marie lived a life defined by strength, sacrifice, faith, and unconditional love for her family and community.
Marie was married to her devoted husband, Revil Dorvil, with whom she built a life grounded in hard work and service. Together, they raised nine children and modeled resilience, unity, and generosity. Marie was a true matriarch-tender yet strong whose hands and heart were always open to those in need.
Marie's life journey took her from Fond Blanc to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where she relocated to ensure better educational opportunities for her children. A tireless worker, Marie was a businesswoman, caregiver, seamstress, midwife, barber, carpenter, mattress maker, and community provider. She walked miles-sometimes riding trucks to bring merchandise home to sell, ensuring her children had school tuition, uniforms, food, and a place to live.
Marie and her husband served their neighbors selflessly, feeding families, caring for children, sewing clothes and mattresses by hand, cutting, hot comb and braiding others' hair, and assisting mothers in childbirth. Marie even breastfed infants whose mothers could not. If you were there, you would be breastfed by her as well if you were to cry; without hesitation or judgment. She was truly a woman for the people.
Marie was deeply faithful and loved attending church, often rising as early as 3:00 a.m. to worship at Saint Gerard Church, where she served with devotion. Music and dancing brought her joy, especially listening to her husband play the accordion at special events.
In 2002, Marie migrated from Haiti to the United States, living with Jeannette in California. She also lived Petaluma, Riverside, Las Vegas, and later New Mexico with her daughter, Edith Celestin. Despite serious illness and kidney failure, she fought courageously for four years, cherishing every moment spent with her children and grandchildren.
In her final years, Marie returned to Las Vegas, Nevada, to live with her daughter, Jeannette, where she peacefully took her last breath.
Marie loved life, loved to work, and believed deeply that hard work-paired with faith-could overcome any hardship. She often said, "When you work hard, you can achieve many things in life, and God will do the rest."
Her legacy lives on through generations of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless lives she touched with compassion, humility, and unwavering love. She will be forever remembered, deeply missed, and eternally loved.
