Obituario de Marvin James Sweat
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary & Cemetery

It is with extreme love that we announce the passing of Marvin James "Jim" Sweat on Saturday, March 18, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim was born on October 12, 1946, to Melvin and Florence Sweat. He graduated from Salt Lake City’s West High School and would later serve his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In his career life he was much of an entrepreneur owning both a sandwich shop as well as a furniture upholstery business. Later he would work many years as a manager for Deseret Industries. It was there that he met his wife, Glenna Rae Taylor.

Jim and Glenna were married on March 8, 1994. Their marriage was later sealed for time and all eternity in the Cedar City LDS Temple on December 19, 2020. Their many years together were spent enjoying cruises, travelling to visit family in other states, and frequent trips to California to buy oranges; which he freely passed out to both family and friends alike.

He was a man of many hobbies which included Beanie Baby collecting, jewelry making, and various arts and crafts. He also loved four-wheeling and fishing with his grandkids and his weekly tradition of purchasing his dear friend Carolina’s homemade pupusas.

Jim loved to peruse yard sales on Saturday mornings looking for treasures. During the harvest season, he would buy cases of tomatoes and make his famous fresh salsa. He was an avid game player and one could often find him around the kitchen table with others playing various card games.

Jim is survived by his wife, Glenna; his eldest brother, Joseph Sweat and his youngest sister Anna Spader; daughters: Jennifer (Gary) Ziegler, Kristy Maxwell (Admir Aleksic), Michelle Corona, Tre (Bill) Loveridge, Trish (Jerrad) Swestka, Sonny Watson, Nina Salter, Angela Barrus and Lacy Scott as well as many, many others who have called him dad over the years due to his faithful work as a foster parent.

He is also survived by grandchildren: Justin and Aaric Ziegler; Zach, Skyler, and Hunter Maxwell; Meagan Walker and Miranda Nelson; Jordan Loveridge and Jazzmine Gee; Haley Montoya, Jake and Alexandra Swestka; Naomi Watson; Andre and Masen Salter; Ezra, Rebekah and Benson Barrus and Alyssa, Rebecka and Taylor Scott. Jim and Glenna are proud great-grandparents of fourteen.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffery; brothers: Gary, Ray, Del, and Bob; and sisters: Marylou and Rella Gandy. He has left his mark on countless lives and now leaves a void with his passing. He will be remembered and sorely missed.

Graveside services and interment will be at Camp Williams in Bluffdale, Utah with full military honors. A special note of love and gratitude to Doctor Gupta and his staff at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas for their kind and tender care given to Jim, Glenna, their daughters, and the numerous people who travelled long distances to gather and say goodbye.
