Born in February, 1933 in Akron, Ohio as Mary Ann Nelson, to parents Harold and Marie.
The youngest of six children, she moved with her family to live with grandparents after the passing of her mother when Mary Ann was 3.
She is survived by her brother, John (Clarice) Nelson, and sister, Jeanne (Bill) Eakin. She was preceded in death by siblings Ida Lee, Bill, and Nancy.
In early adulthood, Mary Ann worked at Firestone bank, married Roger Smyers (deceased), and became the world's best mother to Carl (who died in infancy), James, Terry and Kathie.
In 1978, Mary Ann and Robert Roland were happily married until his death in 1988. She remained a widow thereafter.
At age 70, Mary Ann retired from the Hacienda Casino in Boulder City (formerly the Gold Strike), and moved to Pahrump, into a cottage built just for her; funded by her son Jim, and built by her son-in-law Dennis, with a little help from family and friends. She lived there happily for the next 18 years.
Mary Ann did volunteer work for as long as she was able, including clerical assistance at the local fire department; and for the Oasis Outreach & Worship Center she helped with the food bank and was the Sunshine Ministry. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, lunches out, potlucks, Scrabble and crossword puzzles.
Love was Mary Ann's Superpower. She loved her family. She loved her friends. She loved her church family at Oasis Outreach. She was adopted by many because she loved so well.
She is survived by 3 children, by daughter-and son-in-law, 4 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, all who loved her dearly.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Nathan Adelson's In-Patient ward, for their exceptional care in her final days.
