Melva was strong-willed, fiercely independent, and lived life on her own terms—boldly, unapologetically, and with a heart that beat for those she loved. She wasn’t just our mother; she was our best friend and confidant. The bond she shared with her children and sisters was one of deep loyalty, and a love that never wavered.
For 23 years, Melva fought a rare cancer with quiet determination and unimaginable strength. She never gave in, never gave up, and faced each challenge with resilience and grace. Her journey was long and often difficult, but she met every day with the same tenacity that defined her life. She was a fighter in every sense of the word—and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Her strength could be formidable, but it was always rooted in love and authenticity. She showed up for the things she cared about. Her determination and stubborn streak could move mountains or hold them still.
She treasured the friendships she built over the years, many of which lasted decades. She had a gift for offering heartfelt encouragement and straightforward guidance.
Melva found joy in life’s simplest moments—a long phone call with her sisters, time spent with her children, caring for her rescue dogs, or simply tending to her home or watching movies. She taught us to love fiercely, even when life made it hard.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (Debbie) and Shana (Bill), five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her two sisters, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A private family celebration of Melva’s life will take place in Colorado, where she will be laid to
rest beside her first husband, Bruce, the father of her children. We welcome those who knew and loved her to share memories, messages, or reflections in her honor.
