Mildred Louise Hartwell-Harrison

Mildred Hartwell Hartwell-Harrison, age 95, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025. She was born November 25, 1929 in Houston, Texas to Cecil Lyon and Odessa (Payne) Hartwell. Mildred and her younger sister, Grace, were raised in a loving and supportive home which cultivated a solid moral compass through spiritual development, a sense of social responsibility, and was encouraged in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Mildred was trained to walk in faith. As a child, she participated in the Young People’s Union (YPU) and the choir at Galilee Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she continued to participate in church auxiliaries, eventually becoming a member of the women’s ministry as a member of the United Methodist Church’s Dorcas Circle.

Mildred pursued knowledge in order to evolve positively in all environments. Upon graduating from Jack Yates High School, she attended Texas Southern University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Cornell University in preparation to become a registered dietician. Upon completion of her internship, she accomplished her goal and worked in capacities as a Director of Nutrition Services, Consultant of Nutrition, and Chief Dietitian in California. Upon moving to Nevada, she was hired as a Nutritionist for the Equal Opportunity Board-Head Start Program where she retired.

Her efforts to be of service to others was also demonstrated in her involvement in her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and was a dedicated member for over fifty years. In addition, she was a member of The Top Ladies of Distinction mentoring young women, and worked with the Urban League Guild in Las Vegas, NV.

Mildred was preceded in death her parents, her husband of 35 years, Alvin Harrison; and her sister, Grace H. Jordan. She is survived by a host of cousins, a nephew, many extended family members, and a host of great friends.

Visitation for Mildren will be Friday, March 14, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 PM. a Celebration of life will begin at 1:00 PM both at Palm Henderson Mortuary, 800 S Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Mildred will be laid to rest in Palm Henderson Cemetery in Henderson, Nevada.
