Roy Garrett Clegg Jr.

Roy Garrett Clegg Jr., age 80, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024. He was born on September 4, 1944, in Hannibal, Missouri, to his parents Hilda and Roy G. Clegg Sr. The family relocated to Southern Nevada when Roy was a very young child. He grew up in Henderson as the eldest of four children, with three younger sisters. Roy was a Boy Scout, earning a Second Class rank; he had paper routes for both the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Henderson Home News, later becoming distribution manager for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. In 1958, he was featured in the Henderson Home News for a story titled "A Boy and His Dog, Buttons." Roy attended Townsite Elementary, Burkholder Junior High, and Basic High School, where he was in the band and lettered in football as team manager, graduating in 1963.

After high school, Roy joined the Painters Union. Although his profession was as a painter working in various areas of the Nevada Test Site, Roy was a jack of all trades, helping his family and friends with their homes whenever he could.

On April 26, 1968, Roy married his teenage friend and next-door neighbor, Sylvia. Their marriage lasted for 52 years until Sylvia's passing in 2021. Together, the couple was blessed with three children, and as their families grew, they were blessed with six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who enjoyed time with family and friends, often over a good meal. He loved to fish and would take his son or daughter fishing when in Carson City. He enjoyed sharing stories of his life with family and friends and was a lifelong LA Dodgers fan who loved to travel to California to see them play. Roy was an active member of the Henderson Jaycees, serving as Vice President from 1967 to 1968, and was named Jaycee of the Month in 1966. He was accepted into the Painters and Decorators Union Local #159 in 1964 and remained a member until his passing.

Roy lived his life to the fullest and will truly be missed.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister. He is survived by three children, two sisters, a sister-in-law, and extended family.

A celebration of life for Roy will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Henderson, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Following the celebration of life, there will be a committal at Palm Henderson Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
