Henderson, NV - Sharon Kay Wilson Rothwell, 81, of Henderson, NV, passed away on Nov. 24, 2025. Born in Joplin, Missouri on Nov. 14, 1944 to Letha and Donald Wilson, Sharon grew up in Missouri, Idaho and New Mexico until the family settled in Henderson in 1952. She graduated from Basic High School in 1962 and attended the University of Nevada, Reno. She married Frederick Lee Rothwell on Nov. 30, 1963. The next five years, while supporting Fred through college, she worked at Pan American Airlines and at the Nevada Test Site. Sharon and Fred bought a home in Henderson and had three children: Regina Lynn, Robin Nicole and Darin Frederick. Sharon had many friends and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. With her green thumb and her sister-in-law Linda Wieder, she opened the plant nursery Casa Verde on Water Street in 1975. The nursery was sold when Fred's new position at EG&G relocated them to Los Alamos, NM in 1977. They purchased a home in Santa Fe, where Sharon learned how to snow ski and cook many southwest dishes, including the best chili rellenos. Fred's job brought them back to Henderson in 1981, and they bought a home in the Black Mountain Golf Course community. While Sharon and Fred raised their kids, they traveled internationally, attended many UNLV games, and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends.
Sharon was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was also a great friend. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed hosting dinner parties and playing parlor games or cards. The pool was always open, the margaritas were always flowing, and something was always baking. Sharon always made birthdays, holidays and celebrations special and wonderful for her family. She loved the outdoors including camping, water skiing and swimming at Lake Mead. She also served as a Girl Scout Leader. In her later years, her greatest joys included spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling with Fred, and going to restaurants with her dear friends, including the YaYas.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Don Wilson, her younger brother Roger Wilson, and her husband Fred. She is survived by her brother Gary Wilson (Jeannie), her daughter Regina Roybal (Matt), her daughter Robin Rothwell, her son Darin Rothwell, and her grandchildren Ryan Roybal, Jillian Roybal, Courtney Mall and Jacob Mall. Her family and friends will remember her strength, her honesty and her good taste. She was her own designer, carpenter, decorator and landscaper. Sharon leaves behind a legacy of love, family traditions, and beautiful memories. She will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Palm Mortuary at 800 S Boulder Hwy on Saturday, Dec. 13th at 10 am.
