

Stanton "Stan" Benjamin Colton of Searchlight, Nevada, passed away on April 25, 2024 at the beautiful age of 85. Born on Christmas day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1938, Stanton was a prominent figure in Nevada for over 65 years.
Stan's life was marked by remarkable achievements and dedicated service to his community. He began his career in Searchlight working alongside his father in the family gold mine, The Duplex Mine, founded in 1897. Throughout his career, Stan held numerous notable positions including State Treasurer of Nevada and Justice of the Peace of Searchlight. He also served as a Private Investigator, Clark County Registrar of Voters, and a Director of the Clark County Library District.
Notably, in the 1960’s, Stan was one of the first special investigators for the newly formed Las Vegas District Attorney's Office. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of twenty-one public libraries throughout Clark County. His dedication to education and community development was further exemplified by his role as a founding member and 3rd President of the UNLV Alumni Association.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Stanton was an avid golfer, private pilot, model airplane enthusiast, and a too honest politician. He also loved singing, serving as a member of the church choir or anywhere else he could sing. As a Christmas baby, he embodied the spirit of Christmas by portraying Santa Claus for his community.
Stanton was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Gordon Colton; his first wife and mother of his three children, Suki Colton, who will be laid to rest with him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kate; his children: Tyler, Kim, and Bradford, daughter-in-law Dawn; his grandchildren: Kendall, Colton, Haley, and Cody; and stepchildren: Cyndi and Kellie.
While his heart may have given out, he still had love to give. His legacy of love, service, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A funeral service for Stan will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Henderson, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Following the funeral service will be a graveside committal at 2:00 PM at Searchlight Cemetery, Cemetery Access Rd, Searchlight, NV 89046.
