Thank you for making a profound impact on my life. I only hope that my son has one teacher in his future as dedicated and caring as you. You put me on the right course and opened my mind to my future and career in a way that no one else did. I took the lessons and study habits you taught me through college, law school, and my current work as an attorney.

I was very fortunate to have met Mr. Zoller during my time at Belen as a student. Mr. Zoller had already retired as a teacher and was at that point supervising students in the library. 

It was there that I got to know Mr. Zoller, who truly showed his care for every student (and person) he came across.  We developed a friendship over our shared interest in US politics, and I recall our many conversations and the stories he shared with me incredibly fondly.  

I'm incredibly grateful for all the life lessons Mr. Zoller imparted on me and wish I could have shared the extent of my appreciation for that with him. 

Thank you for making me a better man, Mr. Zoller. May you rest in peace. 



Dearly beloved Zoller Family,

I was a student of Eugene’s in 8th grade Civics at Belen Prep School in 1993. Twenty years ago, among being the man who taught me the value of civic leadership as a young student, he emboldened in me a self-confidence in my intelligence that I have carried with me ever since, in large part because of him. Few Americans can claim to be able to recite the Star Spangled Banner in full, but your beloved Eugene has ensured in me that it’s memory lives on, along with his unparalleled civic pride which he bestowed on all so lucky to have called him a teacher.  With my condolences for your loss and much gratitude for all you gave to shape Eugene into the brilliant, brave and marvelously enriched person that he was.

Mr Zoller was a Patriot whose love of his country and our democratic system was perhaps only surpassed by his selflessness and dedication to the education of his stidenents.  May the Lord embrace him and provide speedy passage into his Kingdom.  RIP

I am so sorry for your loss, Mr. Bello. Mr Zoller was a great teacher. He taught Civics to my son, Dr. Omar Riaz. I still remember him walking around Belen Tómbola, selling “pan con lechón” with his American accent. Rest in peace in the arms of Jesus, dear man.

Gene, a/k/a "Uncle Gene" to my three children, was the Best Man at my wedding to his grade school classmate, Daniel Brady, Jr. in October 1963.  He was godfather to our youngest child, Thomas Brady.  He kept in touch with our family throughout the years even after he moved out of New England.   He was always interested in the education of our three children particularly, and then in their careers through adulthood.  After my husband died in 2019, Gene phoned regularly to check on my well being.  He was a dear man, a lifelong learner, and a loyal friend. May he rest in peace.

Gene was a colleague who always cared above and beyond. 
I believe he rested in peace. He was a good man. Truly gave his life for the mission of Jesuit education. Cared for his students with an attentive heart and loved Belen until the end. He truly leaves his imprint maybe not in a building but definitely in the souls and hearts of all those he touched.

I was blessed to have worked with Gene at Belen for many years. A dedicated educator who cared deeply about all of his students' academic and spiritual formation. I will never forget how hard he worked putting together Father and Son Day as well a making millions of Pan con Lechon- by Gringo!!!! Both of my son's were lucky to have had you as a teacher! You taught them Civics as well as organizational and study skills they have used for the rest of their lives. I will never forget your "5 minutes" in the teacher's lounge announcing that we all should be heading back to class. A true "Belegend".  Rest in Peace dear friend!!!

A wonderful person and a teacher's teacher. It was an honor to work alongside Gene. May he rest in the peace of Christ.

I remembered my 40th Birthday, which he organized for me at Versalles' Restaurant. He ordered a cake with the Cuban Flag on it and the colors of the flag. He used to say: "You can take the boy out of Cuba, but not the Cuba out of the boy". A lot of memories about traveling together specially to Disney World. It was a lot of fun. He gave me the gift of a trip to Washington, D.C. when in 2006 I passed the exam for my Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy. I hit every single place on the trip which he arranged. 

Gene loved Mami very much. They both died on the same date a decade apart. He is part of me, and in that sense he would live forever.
