“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
At the age of 70, Gideon Dennis Ebanks passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
We celebrate the life of Dennis here on earth and rejoice knowing he is with Jesus in Heaven today.
Dennis was born on October 4, 1954, on the beautiful island of Nueva Gerona, Isla de Pinos, Cuba, to Ucal and Emeline Ebanks. He was the youngest of their ten children. Dennis spent his early years enjoying a simple and joyful life in Cuba until 1969, when he and his family immigrated to the United States. At just 15 years old, he began a new chapter in Florida—a place that would become his lifelong home.
After continuing his education in Florida, Dennis began working alongside his brothers in the construction industry. He went on to have a career that spanned over 40 years in dredge construction. Dennis was a dedicated and skilled worker, primarily serving as a dredge operator, a role in which he took great pride. One of his proudest accomplishments, shared with his brothers, was their work on Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah, FL. Dennis was immensely proud of his career, not just for the work itself, but because it allowed him to be a faithful and dependable provider for his family, which brought him the greatest fulfillment. Dennis lived a good and joyful life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family and faith until his unexpected passing on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Maria Teresa Ebanks; his devoted daughter, Monica Ebanks; and her fiancé, Ramon Garcia. Dennis is also survived by his cherished sisters, Marian and Mirian, and many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched deeply throughout the years.
Dennis was a loving and devoted husband to Teresa, the love of his life since he was 18 years old. He was a constant and supportive presence in his daughter Monica’s life—always proud, always present. To Ramon, he was more than a future father-in-law; he was a second father and a source of unconditional love. Dennis was a cherished son and an adored brother to his nine siblings. He was deeply loved by all who knew him.
If you had the blessing of knowing Dennis, you’ll remember his contagious smile, his joyful and fun-loving spirit, and his endless jokes. He was the one who would stop to help anyone broken down on the road—always placing others’ needs before his own. He brought energy and laughter wherever he went, truly the life of every gathering. To many, he was their favorite Uncle—“Tio Dennis.”
Dennis had a deep love for the ocean and for fishing, a passion passed down from his father, a fisherman from the Cayman Islands. Dennis was always proud of his Caymanian heritage and culture.
Above all, Dennis was a child of God. A lifelong Lutheran and faithful believer, he maintained a strong and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He was an exceptional man whose legacy of kindness, hard work, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
