

Jonie Pearlina McKenzie was born October 19,1924. She was the fourth child born to the union of David and Edith Payton in Banes, Cuba. In 1967 Jonie left Cuba and lived in Jamaica for 3 years. In 1970 she left Jamaica and relocated with her husband Edward McKenzie to Detroit, Michigan to join with family and friends.
Jonie retired from Mt Carmel Hospital in Detroit, Michigan after 25 years of faithful service. After retiring with her husband and elderly mother who she lovingly cared for, she relocated to Florida to enjoy their golden years.
Jonie out living her siblings, she surrounded herself with good friends, they called themselves the Golden Girls. They would get together for birthdays, holidays or just going out to enjoy a good meal or just enjoying each other’s company. They were always looking out for each other. Jonie enjoyed spending her time with her family. Her hobbies were shopping, and crocheting.
Jonie would always ask God blessings on those who assisted with her care, and that included her friend and caretaker, Judith Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory her only son Eloy, (Cynthia) Kitchener; grandchildren Eloy A. Kitchener, Mian Kitchener; great-grandson Payton Williamson and great-granddaughter; one great-great granddaughter; nephews, Robert (Blanca) Payton, and Arnoldo (Cynthia) Graham, and a host other nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward McKenzie, her parents David and Edith Payton, sisters Rosie Fletcher, Blanch Payton, and brothers, Branford Payton, and Victor Payton.
