To Luis' Family.  He is missed.  Amazing man.  Kind soul.  Not a week goes by that I don't think of him and it has been 3 years.   Rest in Peace Lou.  We love you and miss you.

Although I only knew Luis a short time I was very fond of him . He was a wonderful person with a huge heart and a fantastic supervisor who  always  had he’s employees back . Always  brought a smile to us as he was a shining light . Always gave us great advice and worried about our well being as he would  make sure we were ok . He is very much missed . I was unable to say goodbye as I had Covid  for his  funeral and burial something I will always be sad about

Luis was genuine, extraordinary and special in every way.  He raised a beautiful family and will be missed by all.  Blessings.

Louie,

Words cannot express the void you left in my heart in knowing that you passed away too soon. You were so proud of your boys joining the military and your daughter being at home with you. You were so happy every time you got to speak to your grandson. You weren’t just a coworker you were a brother. We could discuss any topic, agree or disagree, but in the end, have a great laugh. I was at your dad’s funeral and never thought I would see the day when you would pass. This is heartbreaking and the only thing that can bring closure is knowing the wonderful footprint you left behind and all the people that you touched in your lifetime. You will forever live on in our hearts. Until we meet up again in the next chapter. I love you my brother. Godspeed.

Dear Nieves Family:  I had the pleasure of working with Luis for several years.  He was an enthusiastic,  hard worker always with a smile on his face.  But most importantly,  Luis was a kind, good man.  My prayers are with you.


Luis, I never knew you or met you; but your sister, Betty always talks about her family. I could tell the family was tight. If Betty is any reflection of you, which I now know she is; you must have been the most wonderful and tender hearted soul in all of Miami.  Your sister is amazing and I love her dearly. As my church sister, she was just always so happy and sweet to me. I thank you Luis for being an outstanding big brother to my sister/friend, your little sister. My brother Luis, you will be missed more than you realized.  You taught me what it meant to work hard and to take responsibility for your actions. I admired you more than you know.  I remember when I joined the Marine Corps and ask your sister to marry me.  I remembered when you told me to take care of your sister.  Well your sister and I made our 25th wedding anniversary on the day you pasted on. I will always keep my promise!  Love and miss you Luis!  Rest in Piece!

My big brother that I have known since the moment I came into this world.  I was his shadow for most of my youth, watching everything he did and emulating every move  he made. He taught me how to be tough, street smart and how to never stand down when faced with adversity.  
As we grew older, I often lived a distance away, rarely near family, but we always found time to visit or call as often as we could.  Luis always wanted to be the first at midnight to wish me a happy birthday and I’d wish him happy anniversary.  He married on my Birthday and took his last breath on my wedding anniversary. You really made sure I’d never forget you! 
Living so far from home was hard on my kids, but they always knew when we visited Miami, Uncle Lu will be picking them up to spend some quality time with them. They will miss you greatly.  
The news of your unexpected passing weighs heavily on the entire family and your tribe of friends from Brooklyn to NC, to Miami. So blessed to hear how many lives you have impacted during your 50 years on this earth.  With you gone, know Kevin and I will do everything in our power to be present and be there for Luis, Tiana, Corey, CJ and Lisa. As for mom, we know you were her favorite (lol) and hold a special place in her heart. Don’t worry about her, she’s a strong woman and we will make sure she has all the love we can give her.

I last saw you when your father, my grandfather, passed away.  I’m sad to know, that now it is you, who is not with us.

Where do I begin? Luis was one of the younger guys in the building those of us a little older would always look out for. He was a great kid from a great family. Luis use to always tell me his mother was his rock. I remember Celenia and Jose used to feed so many kids in the building.That is the type of family Luis came from. My heart goes out to the entire family with much love. He will be deeply missed.

Brother, I want to thank you for everything. Thank you for being by my side and being a great "Uncle Lu" to my children. They adored you. We went through so much and yet we continued to laugh and enjoy the journey knowing we had each other's back. When we were together there was nothing but constant comedy; talking about family or anticipating the next upcoming interests we wanted to experience. Your gifts as a person were as unique as you were talented as a father. You befriended so many people and now...there is not a dry eye. This is a testament of who you were, the character people want to emulate, and the path we must walk. You honored your parents, loved your family, and was a rock to all that knew you. I am very proud of you brother. Your family is amazing, strong, and will use the extraordinary example of your life as a testimony of what is means to be a quintessential person. You are a titan amongst us.

My sincere and utmost condolences continue for his children, mom, wife, sisters, and the rest of the family. My Brooklyn, North Carolina and Florida families who enriched his life...thank you.

Like most brothers and sisters we fought about everything growing up, We believed, thought and lived differently and even as adults we didnt see eye to eye however we had one very important and solid thing in common: When either one of us were hurt, in need or in trouble, we knew we could count on each other. Family loyalty always superseeded any differences.  I still cant believe he is gone. I will forever remember him with love and carry on his legacy of service to others and authenticity.  He raised three exceptional human beings, adored his grandson CJ and leaves countless family and friends who attest to his powerful contributions in this world.  He left an indelible mark in the hearts of those who knew him well.  Gone but never forgotten. Love you Lu!

My heart is broken that we won’t be able to laugh with each other for a while.  I looked forward to the holidays each year knowing we could catch up on life, sports, and our children.  You were truly a great person and I will miss you.  Rest In Peace my friend.  Until we meet again. 

I first met Luis when he came to the Department of Health in Fort Lauderdale as my supervisor. He impressed me with an interesting management style coupled with "street smarts." As a fellow New Yorker, I took to him right away. We talked sports, trains and shared Cheez-its. He always had a positive attitude and always had his subordinates backs. He was very proud of his family, especially his children. As I once told him, he was like a "breath of fresh air" for the office. It was a sad day when he returned to Miami. My sincere condolences to his family and friends as he will be missed by many. Rest In Peace my friend.   

Luis worked in my Adult Medicaid unit. I always thought I had won the lottery with Luis! He had great work ethics. He was so good to his client. He had a caring spirit and we were lucky to have him.  I am so sorry for your loss and grieve at his loss but heaven has gained a wonderful man! GOD bless you all.

Lu and I met on an old cellphone internet post board in ~2004. We became really good friends and we've kept in contact ever since - literally up until this year, where we checked in with each other and family regarding Covid. 

What I will always remember about Lu is the good friend he was, and the role he played in my life during some really rough times. At one point, we were both dealing with a lot in life. We talked nearly every day, talking each other through the challenging times. We talked about everything - life, family, and the struggles, but honestly, Lu was there for me more than I was for him. He always asked how he could help me, and insisted on it. It's unfortunate that we never met in-person, but as strong as our relationship was, you would never know.

Master Lu! You were a blessing to those you came into contact with. I can't thank you enough for all you've helped me with over the years, especially for being my friend, and my brother! Rest in Paradise my Jedi roll dogg!

I shall never forget the moment I got that phone call from Luis’s buddy/brother Jerome, regarding his passing; it brought such deep pain and tears...for the loss of a very dear friend and former supervisor. It was a great honor to have met and worked with Luis Nieves. He was a true friend and confidant who Always spoke straight from the heart. He was committed to anything he set his heart to and always kept his word. Luis was selfless,  always reaching out to help and support others; he genuinely cared about the staff and our wellbeing on and off the job.  Luis was a supervisor like none other, and our colleagues at DOH Fort Lauderdale will attest to that. He believed in us, stood up and supported us, he was loved and respected by all.  We know Luis was a dedicated family man  who spoke highly of his love for children, and it was a pleasure for the staff to have met his parents at our office !  Luis is gone too soon, he will be missed, never forgotten! 

To Lisa, children, mom, siblings and other family members, as you treasure Luis’s memories may our risen Lord grant you comfort and strength during this difficult time. God bless you with His peace.  Sleep on Luis🙏🏼

When a mentor dies, there is a unique kind of loss and heartbreak. We lose the future lessons we will not get to learn from them. We lose the person who saw in us the potential for more than we could see in ourselves. We lose a trusted and honest voice.

 Luis, working with you has been a true honor. Never a dull moment. Everyday without a doubt, I learned something new from you. You were my supervisor but more importantly you were my friend, my mentor, my support, my life coach, and my inspiration. I hope I get to live up to your expectations and make you proud. A Young Padawan being trained by Master Lu ❤️.

To the family, I want to extend my deepest condolences. I got to know each of you through Luis, as his love for you all was beyond measure. 

Our hearts are so broken. You will forever be in our hearts and we will forever love you. We will all share your stories photos and videos with CJ as he grows and keep your memory alive. Thank you for being such an amazing uncle /cousin to the kids and me. You really stepped up for these kids in our family and for all of us no matter when we needed you. Luis was  my supervisor  and also my friend . He  always helped us  as well as encourage us  and cheer us  up . He always  had a smile on his face and he would make us feel better when he was around .  He was a an amazing person  and will be missed .
