

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rocelia Luis who passed away on February 2, 2026, at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, New Jersey. Rocelia leaves behind a legacy shaped by courage, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born in Matanzas, Cuba on August 1, 1926, Rocelia was the daughter of Domingo Medero and Tomasa Rodriguez. From her earliest years, she carried a fierce determination that guided her through every chapter of her life. After immigrating to the United States, she forged her own path, becoming a successful entrepreneur in the retail business. Her work ethic, independence, and pride in building something of her own were hallmarks of who she was and earned her deep respect from all who knew her.
Rocelia endured profound loss and heartbreak with grace and quiet strength. She was preceded in death by her husband, Placido Luis, and her beloved son, Lazaro Luis, both of whom she held close in her heart for the rest of her life.
She is survived by her son, Armando Luis, and his wife, Anabel, who were a constant source of joy and comfort to her. Rocelia was a devoted grandmother to Jackson, Havana, Lazaro, and Shalimar, each of whom she loved fiercely and uniquely.
She is also remembered by her siblings—Raul, Evelio, Domingo, Gustavo, and Idalia—along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish her strength, warmth, and enduring spirit.
Rocelia’s life was one of resilience, love, and purpose. Her memory will live on through the family she built, the values she instilled, and the lives she touched.
In honor of her life, a Visitation for Rocelia will be held at Caballero Rivero Hialeah Funeral Home, located at 373 West 9 Street, Hialeah, Florida, 33010, on February 10, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. until 11:00 P.M..
Rocelia will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, 11411 N.W. 25 Street, Doral, Florida, 33172, on February 11, 2026, at 11 A.M..
