BARBARA ANN HUFFMAN HICKORY - After an extremely brave 14 year battle, on Tuesday June 27, 2017 Barbara Ann Huffman completed her journey and joined her loved ones in Heaven. Barbara was a true fighter and loved by all that were lucky enough to get to know her. Barbara was born and raised in Bermuda by her father Reggie Bates and moved to Hickory, NC after meeting and marrying her husband Terry who was stationed in Bermuda in the US Navy. Barbara kept her Bermuda roots close to her and often referred to herself as Island Girl. Barbara loved the beach, reggae & calypso music, shopping, creating beautiful nails, good food and being with her family and friends. Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother and nana, caring friend and a very giving person to all. Barbara is preceded in death by her Father Reggie Bates, her Aunt Gladys Steljes, Aunt Kitty Watson & Uncle Howard Watson, Aunt Lily Brewster, Uncle Alfred Bates, Cousins Ann Caton, Frankie Brewster, Mike North, Mark North, Godfather Billy Bates and his wife Margaret and Granddaughter Taylor LeeAnn Bolick. Barbara is survived by her husband of 48 years Terry Huffman, her two daughters Felicia Ann Bolick and her fiancé Darren Parrish, Shannon Huffman Lail and her husband Denny Lail, 3 granddaughters Chelsea Ann Maynard, Reagan Bolick, Payton Parrish, 3 grandsons Logan Bolick, Daxton Lail, Sanderson Lail, and great granddaughter Aubrey Ann See cousins June North, Freddy Caton, Brenda Watson, Sue Ingham, Tanya Medeiros, Dean Caton, Godson Jeremy Medeiros, numerous other family members as well as her Best Friend and Sis Karen Hall. Thank you to all of her Doctors and Nurses that never gave up on her and treated her with kindness and compassion. Thank you to her family and friends for always believing in her. A very special thank you to her dedicated husband Terry (Aka Dr. Huffman) for taking excellent care of her during her entire battle, for always finding a way to give her what she needed medically and personally, and for never quitting to get her better. Barbara will be extremely missed! The family will receive friends on Sunday July 2, 2017 at Catawba Funerals & Cremations at 2:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 PM with her new friend Rev. Dr. Nancy Carol Stahl officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.
