She was born in Catawba County on April 2, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Lafayette and Annie Bell Sears Hawn.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Lewis; son Steven Lewis; sisters Betty Beard, Annie Hawn, Henrietta Cline, and Martha Hallman ; brothers Claude Hawn, Samuel Hawn, John Hawn, Joe Hawn and Jack Hawn.
She was a loving mother and mam maw and she was loved by all who knew her. Barbara loved her family, her church, the Tarheels and the Braves. She was a lifelong member of Faith United Church of Christ in Brookford.
Survivors include her daughter Betsy Huffman and husband Sean of Hickory; grandchildren Alec Hudler, Nicholas Hudler and Anissa Wood and husband Scott all of Hickory; great granddaughter Hannah Wood of Hickory; brother-in-law Beryl Beard of Hickory and her fur baby, Shaggy.
She will lie in state Friday, February, 5, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home, the family will not be present.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 2:00pm at Faith United Church of Christ with Reverend Harry Griffith officiating. Family will be present 1 hour prior to service.
Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
