Barbara "Boots" Kimrey McKinney

HICKORY---Barbara (Boots) Kimrey McKinney, 85, of Hickory, passed away on August 22, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice after a period of declining health. Born on December 25, 1929, Boots was the daughter of the late John and Wannie Parrish Kimery. A charter member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Boots gave up her career as a Lab Technician to be a loving and devoted mother, as well as a partner to husband, Wilburn (Mac) McKinney, as they worked tirelessly to build Lakeside Marina from a small bait shop with a single boat dock in 1961 to the successful business it is today. In addition to her parents, Boots was preceded in death by her sisters, Marguerite Jobe and Rachael Daniel, her brothers Jack, Herbert, and Winfred Kimery. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wilburn “Mac” McKinney of the home; daughters Karen Emerson and husband Tony of East Bend, and Kathy Rea of Hickory; Grandchildren Olivia Barlowe and husband Brandon of Hickory, Whitney Rea of Asheville, and Julia and Connor Emerson of East Bend. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Hickory. The Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. James Bernhardt officiating. The graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3730 N. Center St., Hickory, NC 28601
