Betty Reid Austin

NEWTON---Betty Reid Austin, 85 formerly of Charlotte, passed away, Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Carillon Assisted Living in Newton, NC. Born June 26, 1931 she was the daughter of Horace and Anna Hefner Reid of Granite Falls. Betty graduated from Oak Hill High School in Lenoir and Clevenger Business College in Hickory. She retired from Henkel Chemical Corp. in Charlotte as Administrative Assistant and Office Manager. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Cade L. Austin, after 64 years of marriage and their only child, Dwight Douglas Austin of Charlotte, her brother Donald Reid of Bethlehem and sister Ruth Reid Bowman of Hickory and a nephew Neil Reid Bowman of Hickory. Left to cherish her memory is her sister Peggy Reid Childres and husband David; her sister-in-law Ellen Reid ; nieces Debbie Seabock and husband Van, Susan Colbert and husband Mark, Donna Reid and husband Tim all of Bethlehem and nephew Terry Reid and wife Carla of Lenoir. A special friend, Jean Freeman of Charlotte and several great nieces and nephews. The family receive friends prior to the service Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 10:15am to 10:45am. A service a remembrance will be held in the Chapel at Hickory Funeral Home Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 11:00am with Reverend Neil Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 7500 NC 127 HWY, Taylorsville, NC 28681 or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3795 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
