

Billy Virgil Dameron, 89, of Taylorsville, NC, passed away on March 23, 2017 after a brief illness. Born April 29, 1927 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Tom Burgin and Mattie Dameron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Burgin and Tommy Burgin. Mr. Dameron served in the United States Navy for 3 years and then the United States Army for 17 years and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Following his service in the military, he was a truck driver for Foothills Trucking. That was the love of his life. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Doris Dameron, of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Plyler of Mooresville, NC, Ceceila Bilfinger and husband, Tom of New York, Crystal Giffin of Texas; five grandchildren, Tanya Lam and husband, Gordon, Tara Stewart and husband, Tim, Christine Bilfinger, Elizabeth Bilfinger, and Michael Bilfinger; five great grandchildren; two step-children, Dale Yoder of the home and Connie Blue and husband, Eddie of Kernersville; sister, Joanna Harbinson; and brothers, David Burgin and wife, Susie, and Rodney Burgin. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, with Rev. Wayne Caviness officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 7500 NC 127, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
