Billy W. Whitener

He was born on February 9th, 1930, to the late Bert Michael Whitener and Margie Bryte Whitener in Catawba County. During his life, he was a scoutmaster with several Eagle Scouts at Troop 221. He loved tending to his vegetable garden and singing in church choir. He retired from Southern Furniture Co. and was a member of Sardis Lutheran Church where he won Sardis Man of the Year.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Jo Whitener and Norma Jean Whitener, a brother Charles Robert Whitener, a daughter-in-law Margaret Carpenter Whitener and a great-grandson Hutchins Franklin Whitener.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife Mae Beth Shuford Whitener, his sons Jerry Whitener (Susan) of Winston Salem, Robert Michael Whitener (Fran) of Newton, Billy Ray Whitener of Newton, and Timothy Nelson Whitener (Barbara) of Hickory, Grandchildren; Angie Whitener Maier (Neal), Amy Sturgill Kilpatrick (Joe), Kent Whitener (Alisa), Ben Whitener (Jennifer), Kerri Whitener Oakley (Adam), Daniel Whitener (Haley), Allison Whitener Short (Brandon), Ryan Whitener, and Nick Whitener, Great Grandchildren; Marshall Whitener, Amelia Maier, Kinsley Kilpatrick, Shuford Whitener, Charlotte Short, Autumn Oakley, Grant Whitener, Grey Kilpatrick, Austin Oakley, Owen Whitener, Noah Whitener, and Lee Whitener, and a brother Alfred Whitener of Hickory. The family wants to thank his dedicated caregiver, Donna.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday January 18th at 2:00pm at Sardis Lutheran Church with Rev. Oscar Shepherd officiating. He will lie in state 45 minutes prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Post 544. A celebration of life is to take place after the burial in the fellowship hall.

Pallbearers will be Kent Whitener, Ben Whitener, Daniel Whitener, Ryan Whitener, Nick Whitener, and Marshall Whitener.
