Charles "Gene" Eugene Lackey

He was born in Catawba County on September 21, 1933, he was the son of the late John William and Florence Mace Lackey.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Roxanne Lackey McCall, his daughter-in-law Kim Goins Lackey, 4 brother and 4 sisters.

Mr. Lackey and his wife, Faye was owner/operator of Sanitary Septic Tank Service & Sanitary Liquid Waste.

He served his community in numerous ways in his lifetime. He was instrumental in establishing Mt. View Volunteer Fire Department, he was a charter member and fireman for 28 years and served on the Board of Directors. He also drove the fire department truck on its first fire call. He retired in 1997 and moved to Myrtle Beach for a number of years, but moved back home to Mt. View Community in 2018. He is a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Alta Faye Black Lackey of the home; his son David Lackey of Hickory; his daughter Angela Lackey of Hickory; grandsons Wesley Smith, Jonathon McCall, Derik Lackey, Devin Lackey and Jamie Foster; granddaughters Whitnie Cook Beasley and husband Chris and Victoria Roxanne Waddell; great granddaughter Brynley Faye Beasley, Ahlexa McConnell, Destiny Pruitt, Makenzie McCall and great grandsons Benjamin Beasley and Damon Smith.

Celebration of Life service will be held, Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Barry Keys officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12:30 pm. Burial will be private in church cemetery.
