Clarene "Rene" Price Gregg

HICKORY---Clarene “Rene” Price Gregg, 99, passed away, Monday, May 9, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Rene was born January 7, 1917 in Catawba County to the late Glenn and Clara Sigmon Price. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ottie “Ott” Gregg; son-in-law Samuel Jones, grandson Roger Jones; sisters Pearl Hollar, Glenola Witherspoon, Ruth Jenkins, Edith Turner and Betty Lou Price; brothers Clyde Price, Floyd Price , Clarence Price and Roy Price. She was known for her cooking skills, her children and grandchildren looked forward to her home cooking. She was an avid gardener and faithful church and oldest member at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA. She was a looper at Whisnant Hosiery Mills then she retired from Hickory Springs as a cushion sewer. She is survived by her daughters Doris Jones of Conover and Pat Sherrill and husband Jimmy of Winston- Salem; son Tim Gregg of Conover; grandchildren Carol Towery and husband Sandy, Greg Poovey and wife Tonya; granddaughter-in-law Laura Jones; great grandchildren Ashley Watson and husband Martin, Kristen Noble, Joshua Jones, Andrew Jones, Cere Poovey, and Eric Poovey; great-great grandchild Clara Elizabeth Watson; sister-in-law Polly Price, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 2:00pm to 2:45pm at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA. Funeral will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 3:00pm at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA with Reverend Greg Brown officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. The family would like to thank her caregivers April Breedlove, Aimee Williams, Trish Bush, Mary Watson and Norma Wright.
