CLAREMONT – Clayton W. Baker, 80 of Claremont passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2025.
He was born on December 8,1944 in Caldwell County to Sue Gilliam Sigmon and Claude Sigmon. Clayton worked for Mom-n-Pops Ham House for 30 plus years as a Cure Master/Supervisor. He enjoyed working in his garden, fishing, and making homemade liver mush. Clayton enjoyed spending time with his family and being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Berry Baker, Benny Sigmon; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Yount and Denise Baker.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 61 years, Jean Baker; children, Brian Baker and wife Jana, Wendy Yount and husband Brian, Kristi Knapp, Chad Baker and wife Erin; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Powers, Azilda Duncan, Janice Hill and husband Eugene, Betty Sweeney; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 2 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Rev. James Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 PM – 2 PM at the funeral home.
