Conover – Clyde David Allen, 85 of Conover went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 4, 1937 in Cross County, Arkansas to the late Ross and Myrtle Hodges Allen.
Clyde was a man of faith who loved the Lord. He served his church as an officer and Sunday school teacher. He was an Army Veteran, a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad and an HR and plant manager in the manufacturing industry. He was also a teacher in the Hickory School District until his retirement in 2001. Throughout his life, Clyde showed love and care for all he met. He took the time to make himself available for those in need. He was a loving and giving man and will be dearly missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 7 brothers, Ross Allen, Jr., William Allen, Edwin “Pete” Allen, Edsel Allen, Alvin Allen, Ira Lee Allen and Rodney Allen; 2 sisters, Edith Allen Urban and Mildred Allen Westmoreland; his in-laws, Dewey and Mildred Spencer.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of 61 years, Sharon Spencer Allen; 2 sons, Kenneth Allen and wife, Jane, and Keith Allen and wife, Melissa; 2 daughters, Terri Allen Atkins and Lisa Hall and husband, Kevin. He was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A gathering to celebrate Clyde’s life will be held in the fellowship hall at New Hope Moravian Church in Newton on Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 1 PM to 3 PM .
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Moravian Church in Clyde’s name.
