Clyde Steven (Steve) Maske passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, November 8, 2013 with his family by his side. Services will include visitation at Drum Funeral Home, Hickory, Friday, November 15th from 6 to 8 PM. Burial services will be at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church at 2 PM Saturday the 16th.
Steve was born October 27, 1948 at Richard Baker Memorial Hospital of Jane Elizabeth (Julian) and Clyde C Maske. He spent his entire life in the Hickory area. He was a gifted carpenter by trade and also worked for Joan Fabrics for many years until medically retired.
Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years Sue Heafner Maske, sons Jeffrey and his wife Tammy of Claremont, NC and Keith and his wife Amy of Conover, NC; three grandsons, Shea, Christopher and Brandon; and his brother Bob from Waco, Texas; as well as numerous cousins, beloved Aunt Mary and other family. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory and both parents.
Pallbearers are Nick Aherne, David Maske, Jimmy Pollick, Danny Hayes, Tommy Johnson, and Bob Jackson; honorary pallbearers are Dennis London and John Panther.
Steve lived for his family and was truly a family man. He enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandsons throughout his life. He never met a stranger and never forgot anyone he had met. He could always say ‘do you remember…’ and be surprised that you couldn’t.
He spend many hours pursuing the family history accumulating names, pictures, life stories, and details gleaned from old tombstones and other family documents to establish a large genealogy database. The family wishes to thank the people of the Catawba Valley Hospice care, both visiting and residential, for the care they gave Steve during his final months. We also thank the staff of the Frye Medical Center Infusion Department for their support and assistance in fighting the terrible cancer that finally claimed his life.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Catawba Valley Hospice at 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658.
