Della S. Moore

Della Settlemyre Moore, age 93 of Hickory, entered into Heaven on June 18th, 2015. Della was born in Burke County on September 5th, 1921 to Thomas and Lillie Carswell Settlemyre and lived in the Catawba County area her entire life. She was a graduate of Claremont (Hickory) High School. Della met and married Walter Glenn Moore, and together they raised four children. She worked as a seamstress in the furniture industry and was a member of the First Church of God in Hickory. Della enjoyed crafts, crocheting, gardening and was famous for her pecan pie. She is survived by her children, Wanda McCarley and fiancé Windell Wilkins of Edisto Island, SC, Michael Moore and wife Barbara of Cary , NC, Sherry Carter and husband Jeff of Tryon, NC, and Andrea Zahler and husband Walter of Hickory, NC; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Della was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter; two sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 21st, 2015 at Catawba Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Della’s name to First Church of God, 306 14th Street, SW, Hickory, NC 28602.
